World Environment Day Observation 2012

Introduction: World Environment Day was observed on 5th June 2012 all over the world with the theme “Green Economy: Does it include you?” According to Programme schedule CIPD also observed the event at Union level of Rangamati Sadar Upazila on 7th July 2012. Around 350 People participate the event including 283 Male and 67 female from 123 PDCs in 6 Union.

Objective: To enhanced environmental awareness among PDCs/PNDGs and different stakeholders as well as to sensitize them towards the environmental friendly use of hill resources including Lake, Hill, Forest, Chara and cultivable land.

 

Importance of the Day: Community people shared that their main occupation is Agriculture and Jum cultivation. It is needed to take proper care for Jum cultivation and using hilly land . They comment “Community people need more conscious on plantation.” After the discussion the participants from all walks of life realized that for therestelf they need to save their natural resources.  4 sepsis totals of 600 environments friendly plants including Neem, Pomegranate, Olive, and Pine were distribute among PDC members of 6 unions to encourage tree plantation in the concern area. Participants felt encourage and appreciated UNDP-CHTDF and CIPD for this event. Enhanced community level awareness through rally and day long discussion.

Stakeholder Voice: Rally and discussion meetings were held in each Union. Representative from different stakeholders including PDC, PNDG, Headman, Karbari and UP Chairman and Members discussed on social forestation, green house effect, water pollution, environment friendly tree plantation, preservation of reserve forest & wild animal, discouraged of using poly bag and 100% sanitation. They also appeal to the community people for plantation of fruit plant and medicinal plant instead of teak tree.

Conclusion: Through the event in six Unions community people was informed about their future threat and responsibilities. The event was highly accepted by community people and earnestly requested to build awareness at remote area through different programme like Environmental Day Observation 2012.
