Homestead Food Production in CHT.

In collaboration with Helen Keller International (HKI), CIPD implemented this project to improve household food and nutrition securities in Rangamati Sadar Upazila of Rangamati district  during September, 2005 -June 2008. The main objective are to create socio economic development  in the area  by establishing  different components of village model farms and homestead gardens and organize different training programs on Homestead Gardening, poultry rearing, gender awareness, nutrition education etc . The target beneficiaries are women, landless and marginal farmers.     Main activities are as follows:

a.    Community mobilization and group formation;
b.    Establishment of Village Model Farms (VMF);
c.    Establishment of homestead gardens (HG);
d.    Rearing poultry birds egg production both at the VMF and HH level;
e.    Nutrition education to increase the consumption at family level;
f.    Capacity and skill development training for the beneficiariws

Services
CIPD formed 50 groups consisting of 20 women in each group. An exclusive orientation on nutrition were provided to all group members. A total of 1050 households were directly benefited from this project. 25 Village Model Farm (VMF) were established. Poultry, Seeds, Seedlings etc. were distributed to 600 beneficiaries, 10 family received Rabbit, 25 families got 25 motor pumps free of cost.
