The Road Maintenance Program (RMP)

The RMP is a joint venture of World Food Program (WFP) and the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) under national social safety net programme. The first objective is to  uplift of socio-economical condition of the rural ultra-poor and women dependent families of the CHT region. The second objectives of the program are to establishment of women rights and empowerment of women. The third main aim of the program is to help established the peace initiative of the GoB and indigenous people of the region. Local goverment is responsile in selecting the ultra-poor families as beneficiaries of the program. They were provided 3 Kg. food grain and Taka 20.00 daily as development package service.

In addition, to be able to best utilization of food aid by the project beneficiaries and as a part of social mobilization activities WFP engaged seven local indigenous NGO to conduct training to the poor women on following subjects to introduce them sustainable livelihood intervention program –

1.  Social Awareness training packages (Health, Hygiene, Sanitation and saving management),
2.   Income Generation Activities (IGA).

CIPD has been assigned to train 1460 beneficiaries of Rangamati, Kaptai, Rajasthali and Jurachari Upazila of Rangamati Hill Districts. The main objective of the training is to contribute to the reduction of poverty by promoting socio-economic progress and mobilizing sustainable livelihood activities with the rural ultra-poor women and improve the household food security, nutrition and Socio-economic condition of the rural poor women.

Services
CIPD provided 43 hours Social awareness building training on 12 selected subjects in order to raise awareness on health, nutrition, saving management and functional literacy. Awareness training is being delivered during the first half of the project that is before December 2003.Various Income Generation Activities has been introduced after the completion of Awareness training packages. Each beneficiary received 60 hours IGA training on Livestock, Poultry and Homestead Gardening, Entrepreneurship Development with 30 hours refresher training during the second half of the program (January-December 2004). In the last quarter during January-June 2005, 140 hours long Functional Literacy Training has been introduced to the beneficiaries. This training has enabled the project participants to be able to read- write- count the number.
