Development Fair 2019, PM visits CIPD stall

6-day long Dhaka Development Fair 2019, organized by PKSF (Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation), a Government of Bangladesh statutory body, under the ministry of Finance, was ended on 21st instant. Inaugurated by the Prime Minister as the Chief Guest on 14th instant other dignitaries were the Finance Minister and former Agriculture Minister Begum Motiya Chowdhury, MP. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre and the fair participated by 194 partner NGOs was organised at the premises of the centre. Dr. Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, the Chairman of the PKSF and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank chaired the inaugural ceremony, while welcome address was given by the foundation’s Managing Director who served the government in a few ministries as secretary. Begum Motiya Chowdhury,MP, former Agriculture Minister, was awarded lifetime honour for her extraordinary leadership in the area of Bangladesh agriculture. PKSF distributes fund to its member NGOs for investment to the micro-credit programme. Dr. Kholiquzzaman Ahmad’ PKSF does not use the term- “micro-credit”, in lieu, it uses the term “appropriate loan”.

Like in 2014, CIPD participated to the fair as one of the 194 participant NGOs and was the only NGO from the three Hill Districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts region. It exhibited and marketed agricultural produces and handicrafts of its members. The visitors and buyers were crazy, especially towards the agricultural produces like local variety of sticky rice, local yams and hill potatoes which are unknown to the plain land Bangladeshis. Seikh Hasina, the PM visited the CIPD stall along with a few other stalls.

Mr. Jana Lal Chakma, CIPD’s Chief Executive Officer, one of the key founders, participated to the inaugural session as a participant, while Mr. Veteayon Chakma, Regional Manager, participated in the fair as a rapport builder and was responsible for the management of the exhibits and marketing. Mr. Shimanta Dewan, Ms. Joshi Chakma, Ms. Alpona Chakma Mr. Riten Chakma, Mr. Bhupati Chakma, were responsible in exhibiting and selling.
